 Baseline is the term "Normal".

I played with the '87 today a bit. So far so good for the power module, but I have to get into the dash. There are no modes, the blower when I ground it blows only through the center vents with luke warm at best air.

How about reseating the electrical connector to the programmer?  IIRC, it may just require removal of the sound insulation panel.

I didn't get to that yesterday. Ran low on time. I'll be able to get back at it on Thursday. But I am suspecting the programmer.

I finally got an ECC control head for the '90. It came yesterday, but too late for me to install it. Plus, I ordered a programmer for the '87 from Rock Auto. Thought I'd better do it while they are still available. May or may not be the problem with the '87, but at least I'll have a spare.

I'm working all weekend, but Tuesday I hope to have the programmer too. I'll deal with both of them.

Good luck. Going on Rockauto is getting dangerous now with so many parts that may get discontinued that you just want to buy them all.

I replaced the ECC control head today. No defrost, now good. That went well....

I installed the new programmer into the '87 today. That didn't go so well. Same problem. Funny, all the voltage checks for all the components check out good. But still the system is dead. The blend door moves, I can hear a click when I turn on defrost. But no fan and no mode movement.

However, the control head went dead on me a few times during diagnosis. One time I smacked it and it came back on. Input voltages are fine. So, I guess I'm looking for a control head now.....

As I recall, the control head and the programmer share the same ground.  It might be worth cleaning in case there's corrosion interfering with the low-voltage signals.  Maybe there's a bad capacitor or two in the control head.

Good tip. I'll have a good look at that. Problem is, checking voltages with a meter doesn't guarantee there is amperage flow..... That's where a good old incandescent test light comes in.

At the cabin for the weekend. I remembered that Jenkins has an '89 Limo, so I grabbed some tools and went for a look. It was still there and I scored the ECC control head. They also had an '86 Fleetwood, which I liberated the control head and the blower module. I got all 3 for $25! The '86 still has the aluminum rims and a good hood. $125 for the rims and $50 for the hood. I'm going back in the spring for both.
Pics in the next post, I hope.

No, but seeing that for some reason they are hard to find, I'm just going to grab this one for posterity. And for $50, that's chump change.
