I got a surprise email from Rene yesterday. He is giving me an exhaust manifold for my Eldorado.
He is going to send it out UPS this week. I'm paying the shipping. A very decent gesture indeed !
I can't thank him enough.

RON

Got it off this afternoon, broke a stud in the head but not a big deal, I'll get it out with the torch & some Vise-grips.
It's on it's way Ron.  Grin

The Eldorado parts, would they be from the same car that Mike had and that supplied the body parts for my car
when I had the accident a couple of years ago ? Just wondering !
Will that manifold have a heat riser valve with it ?

Yes & Yes. Here's a better pic of it. This is what you need, correct?

I'm  on days this week for training. So after work I popped by NAPA and picked up an alternator. $140 with taxes and core. I like that. Took 20 minutes to replace and all is good!   thumbs up

Vansgo Multiplexing systems on the New Flyer buses. Just finished today. 3 days, and it's quite intense. Jon could appreciate it.

This last year I've gotten knee deep in serial communication systems and diagnostics. It's a great system if you have the tools and detailed messaging dictionaries. Otherwise you're up a creek without a paddle.

We got pretty deep in the systems too. From the schematics to the actual logic ladders you can view via laptop. With all the systems these buses have now, they are pretty much necessary. Otherwise the wiring would be just overwhelming.

In theory they are pretty simple. You have an input into a module, and that talks to another module elsewhere in the bus via a CAN line (J1939) to turn on an output. But in practice it can get very complex when you incorporate flags and math boxes into some of the logic ladders.

Who needs data dictionaries?  The real fun is when all network traffic are logged and the messages are reverse-engineered by manipulating various functions and examining changes. Smiley  Some folks have done this to Tesla drive units and battery packs in order to use them in non-standard applications.

I've had to do that for some simulations.

From what I was told, only certain data streams are generic. They are assigned a number by SAE and can be used by other applications, such as vehicle speed data for ABS or door systems. But a lot more of it is protected. That's where I can see reverse engineering coming in.
