I'll try the cardboard.

Was there only 1 auto tranny, or was there an option in 85?

When I did the tranny pan gasket on my buick, I got the wrong one since there where 2 you could get and the place didn't ask me which one I had. Although that was the beginning of the FWD Park aves.

They all came with the THM200 4R. Easy to get parts for still.

Ontario Tire on Victoria St.
It's about half a block before the restaurant supply store (S.T.O.P.)

More progress on the 350. Today I put on an HEI distributor, oil filter housing, a couple of sensors (one on the pump and one on the intake). I took the exhaust manifolds off of my donor engine but broke the passenger side manifold    . The tip and a little of metal from the first port broke off. I'm gonna see if I can get a shop to weld the piece back on and grind the mating surface flat again.

PS: And my wife wanted to see this guy in the message  .

A bit at a time. But sometimes it's one step forward and two steps back. I'm sure there will be a place that can repair that manifold. I'll keep my ear to the rail.

Yeah, I've been mulling over the idea of using exhaust cement ever since it happened.

I'll try and get some info. There's a guy they bring in at work to do specialty welding jobs. I saw a manifold from one of the 6V92's sitting on a pallet the other day. It was broken and they were sending it out for repair.

Cast iron can be a pain since it needs to be preheated to control thermal cracking and carbon embrittlement. I've sent pictures to a couple fab shops/engine machining specialists in the area asking for a price. If it's too high, I'll probably try the JB Weld for now. If it leaks, I'll get it redone before I actually put it in the car.
When I looked closely at the fracture surface, I could see slight oxidation over ~70% of the surface area. It looks like the crack must have been there for a while and I was just the straw that broke it's back.

I looked into the stats of JB Weld and it's only good up to 600 deg. F which is no where near what's seen at the manifolds. I found other high temp metal bonding adhesive "High Temp Steel" that I'll look into.

In wasn't able to get much info on the guy that doeas the welding today. I thought that JB Weld may not be up to the temps, but there are other 2-part steel epoxies available that may take the temps.

Thanks mike for looking into it. I never got any responses from the fab shops I contacted. I picked up a two part high temp epoxy that advertises as being meant for exhaust manifolds. Now I just need to convince my wife to let me bake the manifold in the oven after I patch it to let the epoxy cure properly (since I'm only starting the engine in the shed it'll never see the operating temperatures needed to cure it, I know the oven won't either,  but it'll probably get closer than a couple minutes of running in the shed).
