Pontiac was innovative , sort of like the Delorean days. GM usually gets it wrong the first year of a model and they have to make revisions , not any more , look at the new Corvette and other products like the Colorado / GMC Canyon ,They design and build specific cars for China that we never see over here.

Yes, by 1988 these were very good cars. But I can say the 1984 2.5 version was a real compromise. The suspension was awful, each end had it's own idea as what to do. The back felt like a pogo stick and the front was just rough. The engine was just a rough hoary beast, even though it was a good basic engine in many other car lines. It was the wrong engine for a car like this.

But the V-6 version was 100% better. The suspension was sorted, the engine was refined with a seductive exhaust note, and they were quite quick. The 5-speed was the best. It was a slick shifting unit and just allowed the engine to perform at its' best.

The recalls were pretty intense too. 3 major recalls in all. 2 to deal with the fires and another to deal with parking brake failures centered in the rear calipers on manual models. I was heavily involved in 2 of them. The cars seemed to come out of the woodwork during that time and that's all I did for several weeks.

When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading
