I've occasionally (about once a year) have had the ABS light illuminate on Peach ever since I got the car. The light stays on until the end of the key cycle and then turns off and stays off for another year. I've never seen any codes related to ABS flash the Check Engine light when shorting the connector pins but I'm wondering if maybe an official scan tool could read stored ABS codes? Clearly it's an intermittent problem, but I'm getting very curious as to what is setting the light.

While in ALDL diagnostic mode, the CEL only reports ECM/PCM DTCs.  Roadmasters and Fleetwoods have a diagnostic mode in the Climate Control panel, but from watching a YouTube video, the parameter codes for 1992 may differ from 1994-96.

Here's a training video for diagnosing early Roadmaster ABS:

Usually you will find the code stored as inactive for a number of key cycles, then it will be dropped. If you can put a scan tool on during, or shortly after the ABS light comes on, you'll get a code displayed.

Most of the issues with ABS are for wheel speed sensors, but on those systems, enable relays seem to be fairly common. I used to have a known good relay for a quick check.

I thought it was only the Cadillacs that allowed diagnostics through the climate control head. I'll have to dig into the manual. I don't know anyone around here that has an OBD1 scan tool. But I can start asking around.

I'll have to bring Peach by the next time I have it in Waterloo. That may happen around New Years.

Speaking of ABS lights. The one on the Concours has been on since the summer. The ABS and traction control work fine and there arent any codes. I cant figure out what would make it stay on. I wonder if disconecting the battery would reset it.

Odd. Once the light is on, the TCS and ABS should be disabled.
