Title: Board renewal
Post by: guidematic on September 17, 2020, 10:19:41 AM

In November, the board will be coming up for renewal. Given the traffic here of late, I am hard pressed to spend the money to renew for another year. I'm ready to let it go.

Do we have any other suggestions to keep contact? If so I'd like to hear of them. There is always Facebook, but some here do not use it. But it is an excellent way to keep in touch. I have a few groups on FB and they work well, plus it's free to use.

I have to say I'll be sorry to see this place go, but I do understand :-[  I'm not worried about loosing touch as I call/text you & your brother often. A lot of "forum boards" have been loosing traffic, sign of the times I guess.

Yes, there are these ways to keep in touch. Along with e-mail.

The forum served it's purpose but times change , same goes for the car hobby.

This pandemic has killed a lot activities preventing folks from getting together, especially groups like us where we only see each other
once or twice a year. If and when this pandemic ends we should try to get together somewhere occasionally for some sort of a reunion.
That may be difficult to do with us being so spread out but it's worth thinking about
Most of us have our email addresses posted on the member's list. I suggest we make a copy of those addresses and save them for future use.
As a club we might be gone but if each of us has a list of email addresses we could still keep in touch and not be forgotten.

We went out in style with the car show last year , I'm glad I got those last two awards done for the Johnny , that was quite a loss for the Cadillac community , for all of us.

Hi Mike,  how much money are we talking about?   I might be interested in sharing some of the cost with anyone else who would consider contributing, if there still is time left to do so.

Yeah how much money Mike ? You invested too much in CISO to let the forum die , I figure a five or six way split for the cost wouldn't be too bad , I'm all in. I don't like losing and down here in the states well , you know what's going on , you have to fight back sometimes , stand your ground. Let's keep the forum going for another year and see where it goes. I can post all kinds of car articles as I always do , we follow what is going on. Our old cars are primitive and easy to work on compared to the newer cars.

 SiteGround

Dear Mike Jones,
The following service(s) are expiring soon. We will attempt to renew them automatically on Nov 13, 2020.
Service   Expires   Cycle   Price
1 Year StartUp Hosting (USA DC) - cadillacinsouthernontario.com   Nov 28, 2020   12 months   179.88 USD
1 Year Domain .com - cadillacinsouthernontario.com   Nov 28, 2020   12 months   15.95 USD
TOTAL:   195.83 USD

Here you have it. The cost for one year. In USD. So converted to CCAD it could run $250.

Most of us have known each other for years. Although we don't see each other more than just a few times a year we are, in a sense, a family with
a bond of sorts and it would be a shame to see it broken over a few dollars. There are maybe 10 or 15 of us that are regular contributors so I think
that if we each kicked in $ 20 or $25 we could keep the website going.
I'm all for it and I think Dave ( Benny Biarritz) would be as well. So, what do you folks think of the idea ???

I'd kick in $ 25 but I don't think we have ten people that want to but we know how to contact everyone , most forums have died in recent years. Times have changed in the car hobby.

All we need are the members that attended the car show last year. I thought the website was going off yesterday.

Mike
Gareth
Porter
Kevin
Rene
Beny
Ron
-----------
Seven total ....... maybe ?  7x25 = $ 175

I left out Jon , that would make 8x25 = $ 200

Mike,  sorry for the late reply on this.   $50 sent to your e-mail address by E-transfer this morning.   Hope that I am not too late.  If you decide that you don't want to continue that is fine also but speaking as a new(er) member,  I would be disappointed to see all the history here on this site lost.   Before I became a member I searched out and found a lot of great info both on Cadillacs and the club member's interests from the site.  I am sure that others do the same even if they don't become members immediately.   Just wanted to say thanks for providing that opportunity in the past and I hope that it continues.    thumbs up    Dave

Well said Beny Biarritz , it's been an off year for just about anything in these times. Most people are distracted from what's going on these days , it's not as if no one has any interest anymore. As you said their is a wealth of info here on this forum. Members come and go and you won't get many more members in these times.

Yes, you are right. there is a lot of history here on this board, and it the ONLY one for us here in Ontario. So long as there is a glimmer of interest, I guess I'll keep it going. Hopefully things will change over the next couple of years and we can get more good members here.

 Thanks again for the support.
