Title: Ruthven Car Show CISO 2019 ROTY-A
Post by: madcaddyman on June 26, 2019, 06:11:28 PM
SO as with all good adventurers there was some bumps in the road. It all started on Saturday morning when I was loading up the Eldo for the trip, everything was fine till I tried to get Jon's generator into the back seat. Well no matter what I did it was a no go, I even took out the front seat but still could not make the turn into the car! I had no choice but to take the gen with me as Jon had already paid for it. So into the back of the CTS it went & I was on my way. Got to Mikes & we turned in around 21h for an early start for show-day Sunday. We all meet up ( 6 Caddys ) in a Mc D's parking lot & Gareth take's the lead & like a bat out of hell he's off!! Both he and I race though a yellow light and of course we find we are now 4 Caddys short! 30 min into the drive he & I pull over & we wait for the others to catch up, of course they are all lost. We all get back together & one again we're off......we hit the road & some nut almost runs Jon off the road at the first intersection! Well we finally get there, get our spot for the club & then the world stops! Mike pulls me aside & says......"I left the box of ROTY-A's back at the house"  *yikes* without though or cause I jump on the grande he just tossed me & said "I'll go back and get them.....I'll GO right now!" 2 & a-half round trip & I was back with the ROTY-A's & the rest of the day went off without anymore red-neck blunders!  =rofl=

Enjoy the photos Porter.

Good show guys, Rene had his hands full with his two awards. Great idea to display them in front of the Cadillac's. They are all nice, but I'm sure everyone has their favorite : theirs !

You guys " pulled out all of the stops ". Some of you got lost, your forgot the awards, you went full Redneck on the entire operation but you pulled it off. At least Jon didn't get into an accident. I'll call the mission a win with a few bumps in the road, the show was a smashing success but not exactly a well prepared military type operation by any means. Its a good thing Rene was there to salvage the mission, is he a veteran with " Special Forces " training ?

I still don't know what happened or who was at fault. Maybe Rene could shed some light because I think he saw it.
I checked my blind spot, checked my mirrors, saw no one, then started merging into the left lane. Half way through the turn I do another blind spot check and realize I'm heading into a minivan and I swerve back into the right lane as he start laying on the horn.
I don't know if I missed him on the first check, or if he shot up beside me mid-merge.   I adjust my mirrors after to shrink the size of my blind spot.

Mike will post a nice video for us of the car show when he get's a chance. Its a big build up and almost a let down once its over but we made a good show of it with our ROTY-A props. A lot of work for these car shows. I hope they had some nice Lincolns and Chrysler's there, they were no slouch back in the old days. As Bob Lutz said " we were all about the same ". Big three luxury at its finest, but it was the end of an era for those types of cars.

At Ruthven a fellow came by and started talking Eldorado because he saw mine. He has an '81 identical to Sam's, colour and all.
Had recently purchased it but didn't know very much about it. He said he saw her car at Fleetwood but not her and was surprised
when we said we knew Sam. We saw his car and it was decent but needs some TLC to bring it back. Pam gave him Sam's email
and sent one to Sam telling her that he may get in touch with her.
We invited him to join the club but haven't heard anything yet from him or Sam. All we can do is hope he does.
He is Dave Dunlop out of Burlington. I have his email address and will try to get in touch with him tonight.

Nice video, we are all in the CISO Cadillac ROTY-A " Hall of Shame " now. I had fun making the awards, they all have a theme, I try to tailor them to the model Cadillac you own but the old 40's and 50's jewelry with a simple crest, V and script are the best, it captures the essence of Cadillac but that jewelry is rare now. It works fine on the new plaque design. The Johnny gave me all of that. The old timers only own the old classic Cadillac's and some of them only own the pre war cars.

I used the trowel on Kevin W's award per his approval. Rene's old time jewelry award ( "he put the screws to me" ) the plastic crest the color was gone so I hand painted it, MVP indeed, I was just " giving him  the business ". Shame the generator wouldn't fit in the Eldo so he went to plan B with his nice CTS. Interesting that his CTS is so much taller than his Eldo.

We got to gag Gareth again with his second ROTY-A, we had a plot for that one.

They are all nice, which one is you favorite ? Yours of course. The molds have been broken, the choice jewelry all used up, I'll ship what's left to Mike and he can play around with it. We are all celebrities now, The CISO 2019 Cadillac ROTY-A limited edition, eight total plus the last two with the old plaque design. The awards made the show very memorable.

Uh, I think you're 2-1 Mike, we gagged Gareth when we gave him his first ROTY-A. So now the Jones brothers have an old style and a new style award just like Rene but he got two at once, that's unheard but after all he was the CISO 2019 MVP so we pulled out all of the stops. Great video, now tell me about the spectators that watched the award ceremony. Okay, I noticed they were all sitting on the bench.

The only problem I see for the Lincoln and Chrysler guys is they don't have a suitable crest profile to make their awards. Nice we had two of the old style plaques so they got a nice send off, the last two. I made sure Maureen's / Meghan's had my best choice jewelry I had, only fitting for the last one, BTW on Rene's my plywood wasn't wide enough so I had to shorten the wing tips a little, its actually a little more correct so his is a real one off, just like his custom Eldorado.

Actually Gareth you have to be a member of CISO , own a Cadillac and turn your own wrenches or at least you used to so that makes you a Redneck. We don't have any bucks up Cadillac owners in our club with fancy trailer queen show cars , maybe the Johnny but he drives his cars and they have a driving tour every year with the CLC Rocky Mountain Chapter. In ten years I wiped out the Johnny's entire stash and boy he had all the old time jewelry. He sent me all of those long Cadillac scripts, this year we had a nice mix and match of jewelry, some of the old and the new.  Mike has to run a background check so we don't run into another character like " STU ". The old time jewelry is long gone, as Rene will tell you only 2000 and newer is at the bone-yards these days and the N*S engine Cadillac's are coming in on a weekly basis and they have some nice jewelry, sure its plastic who cares ? So the new plaque design is perfect for the newer jewelry. I have another piece of plywood in the garage, enough to make six more so if anyone goes to the bone-yard grab the jewelry because I'm all out. I made ten this year and six more wouldn't be too bad. I don't even have the profile template anymore so I would just start over, they  would be similar but that makes them unique. I used the older angled top, the new flat top is boring, designing the plaque profile is half of the fun. I owed Maureen one, Rene wanted an old time style one and I said what the heck lets use up this jewelry and get it over with, I couldn't just toss it.

I think the ROTY-A's took the show to another level, made it very memorable. Try to get your act together next time guys, sheesh we were a smidgen away from a total " fubar " .............. LOL Rene saved the day.

Presenting the awards was a nice pre show before the peoples choice awards were handed out.
There was a good crowd behind the camera.
We joke about the Lincoln and Imperial guys but it's all in good fun. One thing I really enjoyed about the show was that there wasn't any rivalrys between the brands. We all got along great.
Some car shows exhibit a lot of snobbery but that didn't happen there.

Lincoln and Chrysler built some fine rides, they all have pros and cons. As for Rene's comment about the bone yards are full of Lincolns we aren't ones to talk with our N*S engine Cadillac's. Most of these newer engines aren't very durable and they use 0-20W oil ?  They consume a lot of oil like 1 qt. every 1 K from what I've read.

I appreciated all the thanks, 15 minutes of fame for all of us. It's nice to put a face on everyone.

They could have used some stronger cylinder head bolts like they use when you repair them. The aluminum block engines the head bolts always seem to fail once the mileage gets up there. This is a common problem with all of the car brands.

I would like to see it go to someone that can rescue it.
I have put lots of new parts on it in the 4 years that I've owned it but it still has a few issues other than the head gaskets but nothing major.
I'm going to ponder for a bit.

All bets are off if you put any snake-oil into the engine. I've done N* rebuilds in the past after goop used & I never want to do that again. It took me 3 days to clean out the water jacket on one job & had to use a hammer & chisel for another.

The infamous horn caper, if Gareth didn't mention " What are you going to do with those horns ? " I dunno who needs them ? "  Mike does and he can have them but we have to pull a gag on him, nothing is free ( except for " free " shipping these days ) .......... LOL  Mike even flipped me " the bird " in the video. He even got the trumpet horn to finally work, a Cadillac without a nice set of horns ?  Mike is 2-1 now, we gagged Gareth with both of his CISO ROTY-A, what are friends for ? Mike keep an eye on Gareth, he'll likely try to even up the score.

I gagged all of you guys with your CISO Cadillac RTOY-A 2019 limited edition but it made the show special for us and I made them Redneck nice.

You guys stole the show with your ROTY-A's, the other guys must have thought these Cadillac guys don't "*#&" around, they hand out custom awards at their car shows as if we were trying to show them up, anyway who won the people's choice awards ?

I boxed up all of my leftover jewelry to send to Mike but I'm going to hold onto it, I have enough to make a few more, I have some more plywood to work with but if you go to the bone yard grab some more jewelry. The old time jewelry is long gone so the new plaque design was mandated.

Like an OCD drug addict I just can't give it up ........ LOL  If we get any new club members that are worthy, will stay with us and if they can pass Mike's background check I'll make a few more, I actually enjoy making these, they made the 2019 car show very memorable, its nice to put a face on everyone. Meghan's award was the best one of the bunch by my design / intention.

Okay, I'd like to know who won the people's choice award or any other awards at the car show, all they got was a generic award from a trophy shop. We didn't need their awards, we had our own awards. I'm getting the " itch " to make some more already but my jewelry stash is getting pretty thin these days. The Johnny told me he had some friend that would strip all the jewelry off Cadillac's at the boneyard and give it all to him ( a nutcase like me ), that was my major source for the jewelry but I wiped out Rene's stash too. I only have enough jewelry to cobble together a few more. We all had a Redneck funny time at the car show.

There were 3 awards.
The Cadillac award went to a 31 V12 roadster.
Lincoln award to a 21 limousine.
Imperial award to a very nice 69 which I got to go for a ride in and I drove a LT1 powered 88 Brougham. That was fun!

The old classics will win every time, they aren't easy to own though. You wouldn't believe what my mechanic friend went through with his 1917 Buick, he insisted on keeping the ball bearing wheel bearings and he had a machinist turn new bearing races and he had them heat treated. You can easily convert the bearings to roller bearings but nooooooo. He sent the radiator to the only place that restores them in Maine, U.S. no less.  He ran my Evapo Rust product that I use for tools through the cooling system to clean that up and the rear axle uses a 900 W gear oil if you can believe that. You can't buy a new distributor cap or spark plugs for it either unless you want lose an arm or a leg. I found him some nice hubcaps on eBay because they always get beaten to h*ll. I spent three weeks restoring his wood spoke wheels for him. It only has 14K mileage and even the interior and top is all original so someone stored that car very well. He told me it has a top end of 40 MPH so at least you can drive it locally, the new tires were like $ 1,100 and most people think these cars are worth a fortune, it costs you a fortune to own one ..............

Geez, I must have watched the video five times, only thirteen views on Yoo Toob, Mike said we are a small but tight knit group, I think the awards pulled the club together but we need some new members then I can make some more Cadillac ROTY-A's, they are just too d*mn funny. Rene will get his Jim Bob's hat and Jiffy Pop soon, a picture would suffice but he told me he'll make a funny video for us. You can never have too many " fifteen minutes of fame " , I got " fifteen minutes of fame " times ten.  then Mike can show him the secret handshake and make it official, induct Rene into the CISO Cadillac ROTY-A " Hall of Shame " !

I was fortunate to have some nice Fleetwood jewelry for Mike's award back in 2008, the green color should have been darker but don't tell me that's not his favorite Cadillac. I made Gareth's award in 2012 , used like five coats of clear coat,  2019 I went nuts and I made ten just to use up the jewelry so the Cadillac ROTY-A legend lives on. I have enough jewelry to cobble a few more together but I need more Cadillac jewelry to work with. It was time to keep up with the times and go with a newer plaque design, I got tired of the old one so its been retired. Maureen and Rene got the last two of those and I used my special old time jewelry on those.

Whoa ........... a huge stash, a Fleetwood sea of joy, the hood ornaments are highly prized. These things take time, I have to start all over again with the plaque design and the size because I broke the mold, that's the fun part, then I have to play around with the jewelry and get them to look just right. I like Kevin W's ROTY-A the best because I used the Harley Earl chrome trowel, the jewelry spans like six decades. You guys will probably do the Ruthven car show next year so I have plenty of time. Maybe we'll get a few new members by then. We all had a few good laughs, we'll see if the Lincoln guys come up with some awards for their " crue " but I doubt it. Get pictures of the Lincolns and Chrysler's next time, they built some nice rides, they weren't going to let Cadillac eat their lunch.

If I have the Cadillac jewelry I'll make some more Cadillac ROTY-A's. At this point we are legendary or just a " legend in our own minds " but I'm okay with that. I still do a little woodworking, troubleshoot, turn wrenches and spray paint so I'm still in the game, be self sufficient and do it yourself, I work on small engines now.

We'll call it the Gang Of Six hanging up on my Redneck garage.

I saw a few Cadillac's leaving the show in the video so our luxury car brand of choice was well represented, I have a hunch Rene our CISO Cadillac 2019 ROTY-A  MVP is going to send me some more jewelry to use. I'll make some more for next year if I have the jewelry, " it ain't over till its over ".

Rene got his Jim Bob's hat and his Jiffy Pop so Mike has to show him the CISO Cadillac ROTY-A secret handshake now or Gareth can show him too once Mike comes up with the secret handshake............. That's a Johnny Washburn joke.

The best CISO Cadillac ROTY-A video by far ! We might just be legends in our own minds but I'm okay with that and it works for me, I've been there and done that and so have you guys , if you want to challenge me pack a lunch because it will be a long day ...........

I owed Maureen a Cadillac ROTY-A so you guys can thank her, The Johnny and Rene tossed in some more jewelry so I made as many as I could and everyone got one but we had to have a victim so Gareth was the fall guy but he took it pretty well. It was payback time for Mike so he had a good laugh. BTW Gareth was that was 2012 and we nailed you pretty good, all just for laughs. Anyway if we get there next year we will have another victim, maybe a new CISO member.

Those small round stick on convex mirrors come in handy , and does the passenger side mirror say " objects may be closer than they appear " ? Too funny the cars back in the 60's just had a small round mirror for the driver's side so somebody finally figured out big mirrors on both sides of the car is better.

We got all iced up here last week like a 1/4" thick on the windshield, you can't ever scrape it off with a scraper , I used my heat gun to deice my mirrors and I let the van run for 20 minutes to defrost the windshield.

We made the car show special last year , I set a new record and I made 10 , The Johnny had a good time with his two buddies and their Cadillac ROTY-A's , Jim Bob's hats and Jiffy Pop , Johnny's wife was in stitches so we all had a few laughs , one for the archives and you have one hanging on your wall to remember the car show good times. I might make a few more but no more mass production , I built these for " Mr. Cadillac " Mike Jones , we bleed Cadillac but only the older ones. Any new ones will be a one off custom job like no other ones,  my jewelry stash is limited but I can cobble together a few more for a few special Cadillac friends. We blew the doors off of the Lincoln / Chrysler guys but they don't have a nutcase member in their car club like me , as Maureen Jones said " Go big or go home " .
